Puma Suede - Tommie Smith - 1968 Olympics Black Power Salute

Puma will pay tribute to Tommie Smith this coming August 2008 with two colorways of the Puma Suede. One in red and the other in black will each feature the Black Power salute fist as a gloss pattern over the suede. Tommie Smith who won gold in the 200-meter dash at the Mexico 1968 Olympics, performed the Black Power Salute along with bronze medalist John Carlos when receiving their medals. In 2005 San Jose State University honored both former students, Smith and Carlos with a twenty foot high statue of their protest. This coming August, Puma will honor Tommie Smith in the 40th Anniversary of the historical event with the two Puma Suedes. Via Streething
