Classics Revisited: Nike Air Shake NDestrukt (1996)

NIKE BASKETBALL 1990’s WEEK

Nike Basketball recently celebrated ‘weird kids everywhere’ with the unique release of hte Nike Air Foamposite One ‘ParaNorman’, but that wasn’t the first time Nike recognized the quirky and eccentric. In fact, ‘Weird Wins’ can be recalled to the mid-1990’s when Dennis Rodman, a sturdy power forward with above-average scoring ability transformed himself into a rebounding factory with the strangest hairdo in NBA history. Rodman’s on-court appearance was just an iota of his true spiral into the bizarre, appearing in public in complete drag and adopting the nickname of ‘The Worm’ among other things. In 1996, Nike presented the dominant rebounding and defensive force with his own signature shoe – the Nike Air Shake NDestrukt; the design is without question one of the most distinct in Nike history, adopting the side-lacing system with a magnificent Swoosh shrouding the in-step above a ribbed upper. The Air Shake Ndestrukt actually Retroed in 2001 and was reborn in 2012 again as the Air Max Shake Evolve, which utilized full-length Max Air below a slightly altered upper. Certainly a standout among the sea of 90’s Basketball designs, so check out more of tonight’s Classics Revisited and let us know what you think of this design!
