Nike Basketball’s dominance today is proclaimed with three of the biggest names in basketball on their roster in LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Kobe Bryant. Keeping up with the Swoosh in this category is, as you’d imagine, a difficult task, but back in the early 2000s, Nike’s reign wasn’t as clear-cut. That doesn’t mean that the sneakers they were doling out weren’t as technologically advanced at the time, or rooted in outlandish inspirations. For 2003’s Nike Zoom Ultraflight, designers Aaron Cooper and Eric Avar teamed up to create a near-sequel to the Hyperflight, adding a premium leather upper and a translucent shell to showcase the inner-workings. Today we get a view of a rare PE for noneother than Gary Payton. While he wasn’t wearing his Glove signature towards the end of his tenure in Seattle, he was gifted this Ultraflight in a mean green and yellow before being traded off to Milwaukee.
