Georgetown University and Nike Commit To New Licensing Agreement With Emphasis On Workers’ Rights

Georgetown University New Nike Deal

Georgetown University has been one of Nike’s longest partners with the Hoyas being a notable Jordan Brand sponsor on the basketball court and the University at large working with the Swoosh for over 35 years. Now the two have renewed their partnership with an emphasis on workers’ rights. Nike News announced today that the new retail licensing agreement reflects a new commitment to improving working conditions with a brand new protocol known as the Worker Rights Consortium. This now provides formal access to Nike supplier factories that manufacture all WRC-affiliate college products and will allow open investigations of working conditions. The newfound focus aims to create an open coordination in the supply chain and make remediation easier.

Per Nike News, Nike’s Chief Operating Officer Eric Spunk shared details on the new initiative: “Nike and Georgetown share a deep commitment to manufacturing collegiate products under the highest standards, respecting workers and the environment. This new agreement reflects our unwavering commitment to listening, engaging and evolving our joint approaches to continuously raise the bar on affecting positive change for workers in apparel and footwear supply chains.”

Nike will also continue to work directly with the Fair Labor Association to ensure improving standards of workers’ rights. Check out the full story on Nike News and in related content, check out Georgetown’s incredible Air Jordan PEs.
