Puma And Michael Lau Team Up For a Sample Suede

One of the main contributors to the vinyl toy industry, Hong Kong’s own Michael Lau, is partnering with Puma to create a new-look Suede design to help the brand celebrate the 50th anniversary of the fashion icon. With a prototypical feel, this collaborative effort pays tribute to sample sneakers that brands produce as a model for production, featuring work-in-progress detailing the likes of zig-zag finishing and fabric samples.

“A lot of the times when I come up with a sneaker design, it’s not going to be for everyone. I rather think of them as products that are for collecting. I guess that because I approach it like artwork,”Lau said.

Some story-telling details come adorned on the model as well, as “50 Sample Suede Not For You Only For Me” is emblazoned on its heel while the Chinese character for sample takes shape on its tongue. Even this sneaker’s box and exclusive “Worth Cat” figurine further the sample story that is scheduled to release on January 20th at Puma.com and select retailers worldwide.
