Nike Is Bringing Back Crepe Soles To The Air Max 1

The Nike Air Max 1 has seen many different interesting embellishments over its 30+ years on the market, but one of the most unusual tweaks to grace the Tinker Hatfield-designed classic is unquestionably a crepe sole. Made of special coagulated latex sheets, the soles — commonly associated with shoes like the Clark’s Wallabees — offer extra flexibility and comfort, plus a unique look. They’ve adorned the Air Max 1 before — last around the turn of the century — but haven’t been seen in a while, so with the time being right for a comeback, Nike has pulled them out of the vault for special autumn releases. The first pair to feature the alternate sole is interesting in and of itself too, as it features a medley of alluring materials. While a simple dark navy nubuck serves as the base, the rest of the shoe is anything but — as the upper features everything from soft terry cloth on the tongue and Swoosh to dark blue-green corduroy on the midfoot and lower throat. Rich burgundy suede appears on the heel and around the top eyelet, and the shoe is then completed by a white midsole and the aforementioned crepe outsole. Enjoy a look at these unique Nike shoes below, and expect a drop on Nike.com later this Fall.
