Puma Celebrates Tommie Smith and the Olympic Games with “PWR THRU PEACE” Capsule

Puma, to honor and promote social reform, brings together two large milestones within sneakers and the world of professional athleticism. Tommie Smith — the 200-meter gold medalist whose silent protest during the 1968 Summer Games created a whirlwind of debate around inequality — is being honored by Puma for his brave social activism. As the Puma Suede silhouette launched roughly around the same time, it was only appropriate to commemorate both 50 year anniversaries with six colorways that beam with the Mexico ’68 game’s iconic typefaces and graphics. Entitled “PWR THRU PEACE,” the first five pairs will represent each of the signature Olympic regions with details that are reflective of their unique culture. The Asian and Africa pairs feature more vibrant tones with detailing that makes a subtle nod to the games while the Europe, Australia, and America models opt for a more subdued base with bold hits of the capsule’s imagery found throughout their uppers. The collection will also host a more exclusive style affectionately referred to as “307,” which ties the entire collection together on a black palette that is reminiscent of the pair Tommie Smith wore on the podium. The entire Suede X “PWR THRU PEACE” pack and accompanying apparel will release at select retailers on October 16th
