Daewon Song And adidas Skateboarding Present A Second Collaborative Release

Two years ago adidas officially planted the seeds of a relationship with skate OG Daewon Song, the Korean-born and California-raised skateboarder also known as the co-owner of Almost Skateboards alongside Rodney Mullen. The list of accomplishments for Song are endless – perhaps topped by ‘Skater Of The Year’ honors by Thrasher in 2006. His contributions to the sport are a major reason why he’s been coveted by brands, and it’s all led up to his second shoe release with the three-striped brand – the 3MC. Cleanly designed with navy suede uppers and a checkered weave that sits on the quarter and tongue, this collaborative drop is set to hit select skateshops and adidas Skateboarding on May 9th for $70. Additionally, adidas Skateboarding and Transworld Skateboarding will commemorate Song with a full-length feature documentary on May 12th. Check out the shoes ahead and read our quick Q&A with Song below.

Sneaker News: Your first shoe with adidas Skateboarding had a very clear nod to your Korean heritage. This one’s a but more subtle. Can you explain the design?

Daewon Song: I’ve always ran black shoes, so this time I wanted to run with a blue and add these little soccer balls on the side that give it that checker feel ! Who says we can’t touch checker …I’m all about playing checkers with my dad while he was alive and I love the way it looks . Gives me some nostalgic feeling of 1978 for some reason ! And make me feel good .

SN: What is it about skate style that has managed to stay so consistent and appealing to non-skaters for decades?

DS: Skate style has created a lot of trends throughout many years , I think it’s the individuality In skateboarding and a comfort level as well as most skateboarders life styles of not really giving a shit. I do give shit but I’m not one setting trends in wear Hahahha

SN: Is the 3MC and the adi-Ease a style you prefer to skate in?

DS: Yes I loved the adi-ease but once the 3mc’s came out my feet became hooked , they just break in right away and the weight is slightly lighter.

SN: Are there other shoes in the adidas catalog, whether it be a classic model or one of their more contemporary models from the 3ST line, that you’d like to get your hands on and design?

DS: Probably a Stan Smith !! Just a classic so I would love to alter one to my liking.
