As anyone who’s had the misfortune of getting caught in a downpour with a pair of Nike Vapormax on knows, for all their great attributes from cushioning to lightweight support they’re certainly not the best shoes to be sporting when inclement weather strikes. Thankfully, Nike ISPA has solved that problem with a brand-new gator boot edition of the beloved Vapormax that fulfills their “improvise, scavenge, protect, adapt” ethos, and can turn the lightweight lifestyle runner into a durable rainy day standout at the drop of a hat.
The high-cut “gator boot” was conceptualized after cycling spats, and provides a sleek yet durable look in black or silver. It also boasts special dotted Swoosh graphics and ISPA hits, and is ripe for improvisation thanks to its versatile nature. Under these towering zipper-equipped folds, a regular Vapormax Flyknit 3.0 is placed. Although the base silhouette is indeed familiar, it provides some bold details of its own. The silver shroud-equipped pair covers a black Vapormax with a cushioning system that’s clear in the front and features speckled detailing in the back. Meanwhile, the black shroud makeup covers a navy blue Vapormax with similar split bubble detailing. Each also features ISPA badges on its tongue and heel. Although shoe and spat are indeed sold together, the shroud can be used with existing Vapormax silhouettes, so you’re covered no matter if you’re partial to the Vapormax Plus or fond of the aforementioned Vapormax Flyknit 3.0.
