The Nike Waffle Racer Makes A Return To Store Shelves

The Nike Waffle Racer Makes A Return To Store Shelves

42 years after it first debuted in 1977, the Nike Waffle Racer has been enjoying a banner 2019, providing inspiration for everything from sacai‘s doubled-up LDWaffle to Virgil Abloh‘s three-pack of deconstructed Off-White designs. However, you really can’t beat an original, so the Waffle Racer has also returned in all its OG glory with this familiar blue/yellow colorway. The nylon-and-suede upper equips two blue shades, using a light blue for the sleek base and a slightly richer hue for the suede overlays. A bright yellow then appears on the heel tab/midfoot Swoosh, and a white exposed foam tongue locks in the look even further. Although the stylings are indeed classic, the comfort has been modernized slightly thanks to a memory foam sockliner and dual-density EVA foam midsole. These Nike shoes are then completed by the outsole that supplies their sobriquet, a trim black rubber creation with bold square waffle nubs that was conceptualized by the late, great Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman himself.

Looking to add a piece of Swoosh Brand history to your lineup, or just want some Waffle style without the exorbitantly high aftermarket prices that accompany the aforementioned collaborative designs? You can get a hot-off-the grill pair served up via Nike.com right now for a reasonable $85 USD.
