This Nike Air Max 1 Is Inspired By NYC’s Chinatown

Chinese New Year, though still over a month away, certainly looms over not only those who honor it but the many brands who consistently participate. Years prior, we’ve seen many a different colorway, though Nike’s creations inspired by the culture may be getting a little of hand thematically. As we approach the year of the rat — arguably the least visually dynamic zodiac on the list — it’d usually be safe to assume there would be plenty graphic touches in portrayal, though this recently revealed Air Max 1 instead takes to more imposing figures across the rich, artistically imaginative mythos. Dedicated fans of the silhouette will quickly notice the tread whose tri-colored tones almost perfectly match that of the Parra Patta collaboration, while uppers opt for an entirely different treatment. Dressed in auspicious hits of bold reds and golds, the base textures from the toe box to the tongue contrast quite a bit from the neutral assortment of elements, of which black and white do the heavy lifting. Contrast stitch atop adds further complement to the rest of the more vibrant palette — aqua blue linings included — with visual motifs adding overt nod to their influences with Chinese characters and a winged horse along the heel, a creature that may be Longma of fable fame. Grab a good look at these right here and sit tight as we await the full story and release details.
