The Nike Air Max 720 818 Celebrates Chinese New Year With Quilted Uppers

Within the family of Air Max 720 toolings, Nike has arguably spent the least time with the 818, letting it be for much of Fall and then going heavy with astronautical themes towards the end of December. But as we kick off 2020 and the forthcoming Chinese New Year celebrations, the brand is giving it a fair bit of attention as it quilts the upper in a pattern far more distinct than anything prior. Auspicious golds round off the colorway at accent points — sticking to neutral black elsewhere, however — with minute details spelling out connection to the cultural holiday as symbols embellish the midsole gloss while taking shape throughout the top half’s intricate stitching. The cushioning brandishes with similarly luxe finish found throughout, though less metallic than the heel counter whose attached webbing dons insignia proprietary to the Swoosh as well as some just a fair bit more traditional.
