Upcoming Nike Air Presto Features Original Sketches On Neoprene Upper

Born from an idea back in 1996, the Nike Air Presto took quite a sum of time before coming to fruition at the hands of Tinker Hatfield. Sketched and further ideated by the turn of the 2000s, the silhouette had but one more obstacle: the choice of material. And though we’ve since come to associate a spacer mesh with the sock-like icon, Hatfield first intended for the shoe to be made of neoprene, a material that is now currently set to surface atop its uppers once again with the visual aid of original sketches.

Unlike the similar motifs used atop the Air Force 1, Blazer Mid, and Air Max 1, the Presto here is more an overt homage to the original concept. The literal drawing is sublimated atop the bright blue synthetic upper, penciled all over in white. Cages, miniature swooshes, and the many signature fixtures adjacent are shifted a bit farther forward in their 2D forms, allowing for the blueprint to be fully displayed across the forefoot. Additional lines then fill in the blank space, seen underneath the bright orange molds at the profile and counter as well as the see-through TPU placed at the toe cap. Toolings, then, effectively mirror the upper’s palette as the tread and heel are accented in warm and cool tones respectively.

For a detailed look at the inspired design, see below. A release will hopefully arrive at Nike.com as well as select retailers in the coming months.
