Nike Expands Its Flora-Themed Series With The Air Max 90

Houseplants are having a moment, as people continue to stay confined to their homes in the name of public safety amidst the pandemic. Thus, Nike’s collection of botany-inspired Blazer Mids arrives in a timely fashion, appealing to new and veteran plant parents alike. A new Air Max 90 nods to the cork plant while adding some variety to this garden pack.

Denim-like textiles in a cream “Coconut Milk” shade make up the pair’s base, even covering the usually-leather mudguard. For a tonal approach, the color is also applied to the TPU lace stays and the Air Max-branded accent on the mudguard. The Side swoosh, heel tab, and outsole mimic the earthy colors and textures of cork, with the plant embroidered on the tongue. Similar to the series’ Blazers, a small “Fig 5.” text is printed adjacent to the embroidery as a reference to image captions found in botany textbooks. Contrast stitches in a brown that matches the cork-like elements are applied to the panels to round out this flora-themed design.

The Air Max 90 is available at select retailers in Europe. The U.S. Nikestore will likely be dropping the pair in the coming months.

In other Nike news, the Air Max 95 is getting a Halloween-like colorway.
