Louis De Guzman Blends His Geometric Color-Blocked Motifs Into The New Balance 574

Alongside Greenhouse, New Balance is teaming up with Chicago-based visual artist and designer Louis De Guzman. His creative direction and inimitable touch are translated to not just apparel but also the 574 silhouette, all of which is to release early this December.

“I am beyond honored to be joining New Balance in reimagining their iconic 574. This mixed media footwear piece draws inspiration from my personal color palette from my ongoing body of work entitled ‘In Between The Lines’.” A representation of raising self-awareness and confidence in oneself,” says Guzman. “Being able to apply the body of work and subject matter towards the color blocking and tooling of the 574 has been a humbling process. Proving the fact that the journey is truly the best part of accomplishing our own goals and aspirations. I hope this footwear piece reminds those to keep going and to keep evolving. I am proud to present Louis De Guzman 574.”

Guzman’s geometric color-blocked motifs are put atop an entirely new medium with the 574, whose suedes and leathers act as the creator’s canvas. Deep reds, light blues, and hot pinks are brushed throughout, contrasting the blacks that comprise the majority of the construction. Even the lateral “N” is bathed in dark paint — its subtly overlaid print even more so — while the grey-dominant mid-panel opposite brands instead with white embroidery.

Complete with an artwork-covered insole and a signature from artist himself, the Louis De Guzman x New Balance 574 is slated to hit the Greenhouse App first on December 7th, 12pm ET; a wider release will appear at Foot Locker, Foot Action, and Champs on December 8th.
