For Vault by Vans, collaborations are more a means of expression than marketing. Often, the brand will team up with unlikely names, amplifying their voice through both apparel and footwear. Their upcoming collection with Ade Okuboyejo does just that, and the artist is using the opportunity to craft a love letter to his childhood and Ikoyi, Lagos.
“Authenticity is how I best express myself. From my personal style to the things, I create; each piece is a true extension of myself,” Ade Okuboyejo stated. “This collection is not only my personal story, but the fruition of a vision that I am lucky enough to share with the world. This is the true epitome of aspiration.”
Dubbed “Forever Sunny in Ikoyi,” the capsule pays homage to Okuboyejo’s carefree childhood, one often spent playing soccer and bonding over local delicacies. These influences take shape thanks to the Bold Ni, Slip-On, and Era, all of which are dressed in a palette derived from the Lagos State Flag as well as the sun, land, and foods that make up the artist’s home country. Additionally, an apparel collection accompanies the footwear, adding to the mix graphic-adorned Satin Flight Jackets, trackpants, hoodies, and more.
