Dover Street Market Helps New Balance Celebrate 40 Years Of Manufacturing In The UK

Over the course of the past decade, Dover Street Market has delivered a number of understated collaborations with the likes of both Nike and Converse. Almost exactly a year ago, for example, the retailer presented two velvet-constructed, neutral-colored Dunk Lows; and before that, similarly monochromatic iterations of the Chuck 70 and Air Max 1 hit the storefront.

For 2022, the Rei Kawakubo backed institution is teaming up with New Balance on a 991, whose release helps commemorate the 40th birthday of the footwear brand’s Flimby-located factory.

The 991 itself, like DSM’s prior offerings, is visually uncomplicated. Material-wise, the Made in UK quality is fully on display, as the dark grey suedes are luxe to the eye as they likely are to the touch. Adjacent, the mesh base complements the aforementioned paneling with a lighter shade, while the leather trims and rear-midsole deviate completely for a light tan that’s reminiscent of older, aged pairs. Aside from the silhouette’s usual exterior branding, “DSM” is embroidered across the tongue and the left heel; the boutique’s name is also written across the right midsole, opposite to “40th Anniversary” markings.

For a closer look at the DSM x New Balance 991, see below. These are currently scheduled to release on April 14th at virtually every Dover Street Market location.
