The Serena Williams Building Is The Largest Ever At Nike World Headquarters

Love her or hate her, Serena Williams has already left her mark on the worlds of sport and culture. Earlier this week, the 40-year-old tennis sensation was honored by her NIKE, Inc. family by having the largest office building on its World Headquarters campus named after her.

Officially the Serena Williams Building (SW), the structure is the whopping size of 140 full-size tennis courts (!), equalling one million square feet. Beyond representing the company’s commitment to champion athletes, the SW also demonstrates Nike’s dedication to collaboration, as design, insights and product-merchandising teams can now live under the same roof for the first time in the WHQ’s history. The space counts with 200,000 square feet of lab space for the main teams in charge with developing new ideas and products for all segments of the consumer market.

Designed by Portland, Ore.-based Skylab Architecture in collaboration with Mark Parker, Executive Chairman of NIKE, Inc., the largest office building on the conglomerate’s global headquarters draws inspiration from both Nike history and Williams’ own life, with structures referencing the goddess Nike’s wings and 140-seat theaters being named after the tennis superstar’s daughter. On the sustainability front, the Serena Williams Building comprises of at least 20% recycled content, as well as boasts an anticipated energy-cost saving of 41%.
