The Nike Air Max 1 “Schematic” Appears In Black

Nike has pulled back the curtain on Tinker Hatfield‘s process behind one of his most legendary products with their recently-revealed Air Max 1 “Schematic” and “Sketch,” and now the former has appeared in a new black iteration. The shoe’s dark base is accented with white lines to emphasize its hand-drawn nature, while Tinker’s design notes, material instructions, and measurements appear dispersed over the upper, ranging from “Add U-Throat” on the toebox to “Lateral View” and “Medial View” on each side’s quarter. Although the overall design ethos is very similar to the Air Max 1 Schematic in white — as the shoes are, after all, telling the same story — the main differences arrive on the rear half. Pinstripe detailing adds texture around each collar, and the right shoe swaps out its regular Nike Air hit in favor of Tinker’s signature and the date his design sketch was drawn: July 23rd, 1986. The look is then completed by a “Sample, Property Of Nike, Not For Resale” text graphic on the sockliner and a translucent outsole. A design that’s perfect for Air Max lovers and Swoosh Brand history buffs alike, these Nike shoes don’t have an official release date yet, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility that they’ll arrive in September alongside the other two aforementioned pairs, so enjoy a look directly below in the meantime.
